Day 3

No Trust is an island was the discussion topic of the morning. We live in a globally interconnected and interdependent world. The actions in one location, not only affect the local population of the region, but may affect people and environments in far away places. Although I have never seen the great polar bears of northern Canada, or the ancient Inca ruins of South America… if they were lost, I would find this world a less rich place. One does not have to live near something, or to have experienced it in person, to understand its value and desire its preservation.

The afternoon was spent at a Georgian Italianate palace in an idyllic English landscape. Ickworth estate is a place one can unwind, meander through rolling gardens, and admire the opulence of the 4th Earl of Bristol, the Ickworth visionary who built Ickworth House.

An afternoon discussion over communicating our band and cause was attended by Trust representatives from around the world. Recent years have seen a transformation in communication techniques and tools and this discussion shared how different approaches share our message around the world. It also posed the question of how we create a shared understanding about the cause of an organisation- why it exists, what it does, and how it does it.
